Over the holidays, we decided to start a vege patch. There was one there when we moved in, with a shrivelled capsicum, some small potato things, and chives. We ignored it and it got overgrown, and I got sick of its overgrownness a few months ago and did some of my favourite type of gardening (ie, carpet bombed it with Round Up).

So we’ve cleaned it out, dug some good topsoil and cow manure in, and we water and dig it over a few times this week ready for planting next week. I’ve started a photo album for progress shots.

I dunno whether it will be anything more than a hobby, but it’s something the kids can be involved in, see the fruits of their labours (or vegetables as the case may be), and get us all away from the TV and computer for a little while each week.

There’s a more or less useless bit of backyard opposite that bit of garden, which we will dig over and turn into more garden in the next few weeks. More photos of that later.
